Google SEO Basics
Google says that they will do no evil - hmm, depends on your point
of view.
Always note that Your SEO efforts could be trashed (in seconds):
-
If you just happen to create something on your web site that is not
acceptable to Google's bot(s) or
-
Perhaps some page(s) on your site is
reported to Google as SPAM (perhaps by a competitor?)
-
What happens when you create some new way of
organizing content that confuses the bots? (i.e. your
site drops in from the search results after you publish your new
organization...)
-
some other Murphy moment, event, ...
There is no guarantee for search placement (even for paid search!) - best to
study/research the search engines - or hire a consultant. :)
-
Google
Webmaster Help Center - Some current topics: Creating a
'Google Friendly Site', Guidelines for webmasters, How to use a Sitemap, adding
a site to the Google index, verifying a site, Google 101: how Google crawls,
indexes and serves the web (all of these topics are highly relevant to anyone
concerned with SEO - highly recommended reading/research.)
-
Report SPAM
in Google search results - you will need a Google account. (i.e.
you follow the Google search link and wind up on some really strange,
unrelated web site.) Note - the page/site may not be SPAM
but it also may not be properly indexed by the search engine...
-
Advertise
with Google - Adwords.
